Playing time
Not been playing that long, just about 4 weeks. I have put in about 110 hours, which considering I only really get the chance to get online to play at weekends, is just over 9 hours per session.
I don't agree with buying items with real money via ebay etc...
I find the game very simple to play (simple controls etc.. not easy!) since I am only just on my way through the game with my first character (I know some will say that in the time I have put in they could have finished the game by now!) I am spending my time exploring all the areas and killing anything on the map, searching for chests etc... I then do the missions and venture into new areas.
I'm only level 15 and finding it a little tricky around the LA areas at times. I don't join in with others just yet, only on the pre searing quests did I join someone. I keep getting guild invites but I do not want to join until I have completed the game once on my own. I didn't buy the game to go from beginning to end in as short a time as possible. I have this whole new world to explore, people to meet and things to kill!
Am I addicted, hell yeah! Is it a problem, nah, ask anyone addicted to something if it is causing them a problem and they will also say no! Anyway only another 83 hours or so before I am on again.........

i have played 1200 hours for the last 7 months , i got it on 10 of may ...
1.2 milion exp on my elementarist
ok , its adictive , for people who look from outside may look like is something bad , but im sure that those people who dont play rpg online games , go to forums , joke mails , comunity sites like hi5 , etc etc , and even those who dont use computers or internet , watch TV !!!
ask those people how many hours of tv they consume everyday , if not tv , radio , if not radio , books , if not books , newspaper , if not newspaper ... well must not be human then , its a plant.
i agree its a problem for people that dont have a job , dont go to school , dont go out to eat , just live inside the game , but is like everything , some people spend their lifes working , dont have time to spend the money they make , no one is righting articles about them , i think its the same problem , humans tend to over consume , its not becose its a game , its becose we are animals.
about buying items , i think its comun sence in guildwars , ebayers are losers.

I never use the /age command anymore, it would be too embarrassing. Actually, also deceiving, because we often leave ourselves logged on while eating dinner or even doing other things (status set to away).
Buy GW things with real world cash? No, this is something I would never do. I don't even buy weapons or upgrades from other players within the game. Doing this would ruin the game for me. A great part of my enjoyment with GW is the chance of finding yet another better weapon or item during the next gaming session. If I were to buy the things that I want or need, then there would be nothing more to achieve, and the game would be over for me.
This game is more addictive than other PC games that I have played before, because of the online interaction. I have always become addicted to whatever PC game I have been playing for a time, at least until my character reached the max in skills, armour and weapons. Then my interest suddenly disappeared. But with GW I am going strong because I enjoy playing with friends and, sometimes for the amusement factor, I enjoy playing with total idiots.

I would say for addiction guild wars is one of the better games. Due to no monthly fee you don't feel the need to play to get your moneys worth so I don't feel guilty when I don't play for 2-3 days at a time like I would with say WoW as would feel I am not getting my moneys worth.

Both WOW and GW are addictive. GW much less so than WOW, IMHO.
I remember back when computer games were still very new, Timothy Leary said that he would not have started the LSD movement if computer games had been available, since he thought that computer games produced a very similar mind-altered state. Think about that one.

How many hours have you accumulated?
Just wondering, how many hours have you guys completed (age) playing guild wars? In about 2 months, ive accumulated 95 hours of playing time on 5 or 6 characters. Post screenshots if you've got some rediculous amount, like 1000+ hours

I'm afraid to list my playing time since it could be used as evidence in divorce court. My wife believes that I have been writing the Great American Novel behind closed doors all these evenings.

1441 and 14min over the last 7 months...200hrs a month....6.5 hrs a day...hmmmm...average is misleading as I typically play 4hrs on week days when I'm working (not WHILE I'm working) and up to twice that on a Saturday...Most of it came from the Summer. I'm a teacher and have 7 weeks off, plus all the federal holidays...those hours really rack up then, when I have little in the way of demands on my time.
I've done some reserch on game addiction and the media in general...I can see it being a real problem for folks who let it interfere with their lives...as for me, well, the only thing it has taken the place of is television watching. I see that as a positive...I typically watched up to 5 hours of television per day before video-games took over that recreational time. The appeal of course, is the interactivity of the game vs. the passive engagement of tv. I was 3 hrs below the national average on tv as it was, now I'm averaging about an hour a day of regular programming (usually in spurts because there isn't much on worth watching and I don't watch sports at all). And 1/2 an hour of news. I spend about 3hrs a day listening to the radio (Stern in the morning, NPR in the afternoon) and I read about 2 hrs a day (an hour or so before bed and some during the day (never in the bathroom)). I think this site may have some good info on the whole issue:
